PHL | Hidden Food Gems of San Juan

by blueclouds

The food adventure of Nganga does not end in Kapitolyo.

San Juan is another foodie destination within the Metro. Due to limited time and space in our tummies, we chose only 2 restaurants in the street of P. Guevarra.

FIRST DINNER – CAFE YSABEL

Cafe Ysabel’s facade can be intimidating but to feed our curiosity since none of us have tried the restaurant, we entered and checked the cakes then later on the menu. Cafe Ysabel is usually a dating place because of its cozy ambiance and fine dining experience. The prices are affordable for the quality it gives to the customer.

Cafe Ysabel’s facade

As we planned to have dinner at Greeka Kouzina, we ordered light food only in Cafe Ysabel.

Calamares

Gambasetti is an olive oil based pasta with herbs and shrimps

Strawberry Shortcake

Pistachio Sansrival (too sweet!)

The verdict, the food and service were good, will someday try their other menu.

Actual Cost: 170 x 5 = 850

Location: 455 P. Guevarra Street, San Juan Metro Manila
Telephone Number: +632 726-9326 and +632 725-5089

SECOND DINNER – GREEKA KOUZINA

I just saw the advertisement of this restaurant in clickthecity.com, which made me curious how good is their food compared to the famous greek restaurant – Cyma – which I have already tried. Greeka Kouzina is already at the far end of P. Guevarra (almost near the San Juan Fire Station). We walked our way from Cafe Ysabel (near Wilson Street) to Greeka Kouzina not knowing how far it is. The restaurant was full when we arrived so waited for about an hour. By the time we had our table ready, we are quite hungry but sleepy as well.

Fig Roka Salata

Fig Roka Salata is a combination sweet figs, walnuts and sundried tomatoes on a bed of arugula and mixed greens.

Melitzanosalata (Eggplant Dip) with Pita Breads

Melitzanosalata (Eggplant Dip) with Pita Breads is eggplant grilled over charcoal that makes a surprisingly refreshing meze.

Moussaka

Moussaka is a delectable grilled eggplant layered with beef tomato sauce and creamy bechamel

The verdict, food met my expectation and will definitely go back to try other menu. But be sure not to go on a rush hour as the waiting line could be long. Price is cheaper than that of Cyma.

Actual Cost: 154 x 5 = 770

Location: 285 P. Guevarra St, San Juan Metro Manila
Telephone Number: +632 624-5974
