PHL | Amazing Race to Northern Cebu 1 – Malapascua

by blueclouds

Cebu is located in the Visayas part of the Philippines.

Two beaches are known in Northern Cebu – Malapascua and Bantayan.  So thought of researching on how the itinerary should go so that we could visit two places at one time.

We are a group of 4 (3 girls and 1 guy), we arrived Saturday 6:00 AM at Mactan International Airport.  We walked our way to the departure area to get a metered taxi instead of the airport taxi.  We told the driver to drop us at the Northern Bus Terminal.  As we are already hungry, we had our breakfast at the “carinderia” (small store that sells cheap home-style food) in the terminal.  While we were finishing our meal, a friend who already lives in Cebu who just finished his daily run in the city dropped by to say Hi.

With no sleep, my mind was not functioning well yet.   That friend pointed to the bus with Hagnaya sign, and I agreed that the group board the bus.

Conductor asked (in Tagalog): “Where are you headed to?”

I answered: “Malapascua”

Conductor said (in Tagalog): “This bus is headed to Bantayan and not Malapascua”

At the back of my mind, oh no! Should we get down the bus, but it was already far from the terminal.  Or should I just switch the itinerary to go to Bantayan first, however we are to meet another group already in Malaspascua.

Until the conductor finally suggested that we get off at Bogo Terminal and transfer to another bus. (Whew!).

We arrived at Maya port, and were told not to agree to pay more than PHP80 for the boat ride to reach Malapascua.  However, as we wanted to leave already, we agreed to pay PHP150 each together with 4 Koreans and 3 Europeans.  Boat ride took less than an hour.  Upon arrival at Malapascua, we were fetched by the guides of the group who came earlier at the island.

We had our lunch at the community at the back of the island where food are cheaper than those sold in the resorts at the beachfront.

We settled and rested for awhile at Blue Corals Beach Resort.

We explored the island later in the afternoon.

It is common to take food shots before eating.  So now, guess what we had for dinner.

Sunday 7AM, we headed for snorkelling and island hopping.  Malapascua is considered as one of the diving sites in the Philippines.
