Our flight was still late afternoon so we still have time to roam around the city. We were planning to check Siliman University, however the Information Booth was closed when we passed by. So we were only able to see the Dumaguete Cathedral and Bell Tower.
The St. Catherine of Alexandria Cathedral is a historical monument. It is the largest church in the city and was built originally built 1757-1776.
The church displays traditional European architecture with its high ceilings and hanging chandeliers.
Having undergone restoration in 2005, the facade is indeed praise worthy and is made of brick stone.
The altar is elaborately decorated
Inside the church, an altar of the 12 apostles can be seen.
On the side of the church is the bell tower which was built as well in 1811 whereby Muslims were a threat to people as they search for slaves. The Bell Tower was then used to forewarn the locals of any dangers coming.
These two – Cathedral and Bell Tower – are very famous architectural landmark in Dumaguete City
