PHL | Kapitolyo Food Trip Part 3

by blueclouds

It’s another weekend in the city with nothing to do, so time to reward oneself with some food.  I was actually wanting to try the restaurants near my place, however since my foodtrip group are all from the south so decided to go somewhere in the middle – Pasig area it is!  We are now on our third series for the Kapitolyo Foodtrip.  We have three new joiners now – Paula, Nina and Jen.  Would you want to be part of the fourth series? Just send me a message so I can invite you should we have our next schedule.

We were supposed to have Eleven Tables as our first stop however, I was still wrong timing!  It is usually scheduled to open 2:00 PM and we were there around 4:00 PM but still closed and will open by 6:00 PM.  So we went on the nearby restaurant.

FIRST STOP – SIZE MATTERS (United Street)

The Kapitolyo Branch has just opened few months back.  This was not yet present when we had our Foodtrip Part 2 in May 2013.  This restaurant offers flame-grilled sausage burgers.   Aside from this, their menu includes: gourmet burgers, pasta, fries, buffalo wings, and as well as all-day breakfast.  For the burgers, you have the option either to go for ¼ lbs or ½ lbs which is just PHP80 difference.  It can be upgraded to a combo meal with fries and 12oz dink just add PHP60, and to upgrade the drink to 22oz (PHP15) and 36oz (PHP30).

Size Matters – The area

We asked for their bestseller as usual and we ordered – Burger, Pasta and Wings.

For the burger we had ¼ lbs B.S.B (Beef and Sausage Burger) Combo Meal and divided it by 3.  B.S.B. stands for Beef and Sausage Burger, which comes with garlic mushrooms, havarti cheese, lettuce, onions, tomatoes, oat bun.

Size Matters – ¼ lbs B.S.B (Beef and Sausage Burger) with fries and drinks (¼ lbs PHP189 + PHP60)

For pasta, we ordered Sausage Bolognese which just looks the typical spaghetti.

Size Matters – Sausage Bolognese (PHP199)

To add to our order, 5 pcs of buffalo wings that came with bleu cheese as its dip.

Size Matters – Buffalo Wings with bleu cheese (3PCS – PHP149 / 5PCS – PHP 295)

The verdict:

The B.S.B was indeed loaded with lots of ingredients for the value of money you will indeed be full with this but seems to be not that tasty.  The Spaghetti Bolognese is lacking taste as well could have been missing some ingredients.  We loved the buffalo wings which was a little bit spicy.  On a general note, not something that interests me to go back again and try other menu.

Actual Cost: (83 x 3) + (99.5 x 2) + (59 x 5) = PHP743

SECOND STOP – MILKY & SUNNY

This will be our second time in this restaurant.  We were back so that our 3 new joiners would be able to try the food as well.  We had three orders of pancakes for the 6 of us.

Milky&Sunny

Milky&Sunny

Milky&Sunny – Strawberry Cream Cheese Pancakes (PHP160)

Milky&Sunny – Blueberry Honeypie Pancakes (PHP160)

Milky&Sunny – Choco Chip Pancakes (PHP140)

The verdict:

Not the right decision though to have 3 orders of pancakes as it was heavy for our tummies, filling up the spaces to try other food.  We should have just ordered 2 instead.  Nonetheless, the pancakes were great.  I would love to try again other food in the menu.

Actual Cost:  (76.6 x 6) = PHP460

Location: 9 East Capitol Drive, Barangay Kapitolyo
Telephone Number: +63 (02) 654-2049

THIRD STOP – MAD MARK’S

Since we were still full from the previous 2 stops, we ordered 1 scoop of ice cream each only from this restaurant.  We ordered three types of ice cream – Half Baked Madagascar Ice Cream, Roasted Pecan Ice Cream, Pistachio Nuts Ice Cream.  All of which are cream based.

Mad Mark’s

Mad Mark’s – The Top 3 on the Ice Cream list are the bestsellers

Mad Mark’s

Mad Mark’s – Roasted Pecan (1 Scoop – PHP70, 2 Scoops – PHP130)

The verdict:

All three ice cream just taste alike just a difference with what was mixed – cookie dough, pecan, pistachio.  The food in their menu looks interesting to try as well, however, there’s some sort of smell when you go into the restaurant which we could not understand or was it maybe with the mixed smell of the food being ordered by the customers.

Actual Cost:  PHP70 per scoop

Location: 23 East Capitol Drive, Barangay Kapitolyo
Telephone Number: +63 (02) 342-6802

FOURTH STOP – SILANTRO FIL-MEX CANTINA

On our walk way down this restaurant, strong rain pour really hard so we had to stop under a roof otherwise we would get wet.  Well, at least more time to digest the food we had.

Silantro is a fusion of Filipino and Mexican cuisine which was perfected first in Dagupan by its owners. This is located at the far end of East Capitol Drive which is just after Rub Ribs & BBQ.

Silantro Fil-Mex Cantina

I love nachos, and so we ordered one but on the healthy side for now as we had the Chicken instead of the beef.  The nachos were topped with shredded chicken, cheese, salsa, and guacamole.  For our main meal, we ordered 3 Silantro Burritos cut into 2.  However when our order arrived, the burrito was big and was really packed with rice, so we decided to have ¼ each instead.  So, we were left with 1 ½ burrito.  I and another friend take another ¼ of the burrito and we had to take out the full burrito since no one can eat it anymore.

Silantro – Chicken Nachos (PHP145)

Silantro – Silantro Burrito (PHP160)

The verdict:

Make sure to eat the nachos fast or separate the toppings as it will make the nachos absorb it and will cause it to be soggy (not sure if this can be used to describe nachos since this is used for fries).  I loved the nachos.  The burrito is good as well but really heavy to take in.  I would love to go back this restaurant to try the other food in the menu.

Actual Cost:  (104.17 x 6) = PHP625

Location: 75 East Capitol Drive, Barangay Kapitolyo
Telephone Number: +63 (02) 654-9657

FIFTH STOP – EPIC CAFE

Enough of the food, everyone’s had full tummies already.  We walked all the way up the East Capitol Drive for a coffee and dessert place.  I was actually looking for some cheesecakes as what I have found in the internet, however was disappointed not to find any pastry that looks yummy to try.  So, I ended up buying Latte coffee instead.   The others are as well full, so just ordered their own drinks.

Epic Café – Cakes

Epic Café – Matcha Frappe (PHP150)

Epic Café – LMDT Peppermint Tea (PHP85) / LMDT Green Tea (PHP85)

Latte (PHP100/PHP120)

The verdict:

The matcha was not that too tasty thus not recommended for those matcha lovers out there.  The coffee was the typical coffee but the ambiance in Epic Coffee is indeed homey and good place to meet up for a talk with friends.

Actual Cost: PHP150, PHP85, PHP100

Location: 102 East Capitol Drive, Barangay Kapitolyo
