Today it’s off to Murren, a small village in Bernese Oberland. When I was researching on what places to go to in Switzerland, I actually have never heard of Murren or Bernese Oberland before. The more commonly known destinations in Switzerland (especially in tour packages) is either Geneva or Lucerne.
But thanks to the internet, I saw a recommendation from Rick Steve’s on Bernese Oberland.. there weren’t much pictures to go on, but the people who have gone there all had really good reviews of the place. There were 3 villages mentioned from there that you could stay at, Wengen, Grindelwald and Murren. Or others suggest to stay at Lauterbrunnen as your home base and just take the cable cars to get to the smaller villages. After more googling, decided to go with Murren as our next destination.
The trip was long, tiring and with a lot of transfers.. We took multiple train rides from Rolle – Lausanne – Bern – Interlaken OST – Lauterbrunnen.. Then a walk and cable car ride up to Lauterbrunnen BLM, then our last train ride to Murren BLM… In total, we travelled for 6 hours to get here.
Since my only basis for choosing this place is what I read from the internet, I was worried that it might not live up to all the reviews and the long trip going here wouldn’t be worth it..
But when I stepped into Murren, saw the view of the mountains, the sky..my first reaction was.. WOW.. so this is what it feels like to be on top of the world! 😀
While here we stayed at Eiger guesthouse, just opposite the train station..
It’s more expensive compared to the rest of our accommodations throughout our trip, but well worth it.. The staff was friendly, the room was nice and comfy..
And imagine waking up to this view every morning!
Take note though that there’s no lifts here, so if you’re staying here, be ready to bring your luggage up the stairs yourself.
After checking in we were eager to start walking around and exploring this tiny village.. will share that in my next post! 🙂
